In Rural North Carolina, Learning Journalism and Blogging About It

March 24, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Victoria Kurzweg is about to make her first attempt at reporting. She will be working temporarily at the city desk of the Gaston Gazette, a daily newspaper in south-central North Carolina. The eight-week learning experience begins on April 5, 2010 and was made possible by the Institute for Humane Studies (IHS).*

In the early planning stages, Kurzweg’s mentors warned her that she will probably cover the the occasional bake sale, junior varsity cheerleading championship, and other seemingly trivial news.

Friends, potential future employers, and anyone else can follow what happens on this blog.

Kurzweg has a Master’s degree in twentieth century history from the London School of Economics. She is a former Research Analyst and Senior Writer at Berman and Company, Rick Berman‘s lobbying and communications firm, where she specialized in food and beverage politics.
